Conventional Power Generation

In power generation applications, UPS systems are integrated in three part of the power plant:


  • UPS systems are fully part of the Turbine system. It will be installed as close to the turbine as possible and is possibly integrated into a shelter, especially for single shaft designs. For such applications, the small footprint of the equipment is key, as well as its ability to operate in difficult environmental conditions (IP level, dustproof).
Electrical Balance of Plant (eBOP)

  • UPS systems are selected according to the critical level of the loads. It can be chosen either to have centralized or distributed control systems, according to the Utility. The eBOP application is vital for the power plant and that's why battery selection and battery sizing is key as any loss of power could result in complete power generation plant shutdown.
  • The typical applications in the eBOP are process control, telecommunication and SCADA control room. In any case, UPS systems for process control will be selected for their design life (20 years minimum) and their ability to recharge a battery in a minimum time. UPS systems may be of the AC or DC type, according to the load to be supplied. Another part of UPS system to be included into the eBOP is the AC and DC distribution panels.
  • Substation

    • This application is another key node of the power generating plant. At this point of the plant, electricity leaves the power generation plant to travel on the Transmission and Distribution network. DC UPS
